Swordale Stays

Our self catering holiday cottage in Evanton (known as a Steading) is the perfect place to stay while you explore the Highlands of Scotland.

We like to think that we’re up there as one of the best holiday cottages in the Highlands of Scotland. This is a great place to stay and use as a base to explore, or stop off for a few days while driving the NC500.

The Highlands are the mountainous regions north and west of the Highland Boundary Fault. The Great Glen, with Loch Ness, divides the Grampian Mountains to the southeast from the Northwest Highlands. They are popularly described as one of the most scenic regions of Europe.

Why come to the Scottish Highlands?

Well, we did a Google search on this very question, and here are just some of the reasons given by different people.

The Scottish Highlands is really the Scotland of your imagination.  it was named as one of National Geographic’s ‘Best of the World’ destinations for 2023.”

“The Highlands are often portrayed as a romantic part of Scotland. This is not at all strange given it’s stunning unspoilt nature.

You’ll love the Highlands. It’s one of the most beautiful areas to visit in Scotland.”

If you’ve been dreaming of visiting Scotland, there’s a good chance the landscapes that feature in that dream are all lifted straight from the Highlands.”

Where are we?

The Steading is in Evanton on the Easter Ross part of the North Coast 500, also known as the NC500.  This is a 516 mile (830 km) scenic route around the north coast of Scotland starting and ending at Inverness Castle. It was launched in 2015 to link the north Highlands of Scotland into one touring route. It’s certainly worth driving around some of the route while you’re here.

Distances from the Steading:

    • Inverness city centre (train station, bus depot, car hire, taxis) – 20 miles (32 km)
    • Inverness Airport (train station, bus stop, car hire, taxis) – 25.5 miles (41 km)
    • Dingwall town centre (train station, bus stop, taxis) – 8.5 miles (13.5 km)
    • Alness town centre (train station, bus stop, taxis) – 6 miles (9.5 km)
